Special meeting of the full-time membership

Special meeting of the full-time membership

The following message went out to FT members this evening:

All full-time AUNBT members are requested to attend a special membership meeting on Wednesday November 27 at 3:30 pm. The meeting will be videoconferenced between the Wu Conference Centre auditorium on the Fredericton campus, Ganong Hall 215 on the Saint John campus, Bathurst campus U-345, and Moncton Rm.121, 55 Lutz St.

This special meeting will not replace the Fall General Meeting, still scheduled to be videoconferenced between the Wu Centre and Hazen Hall 239 at 10 am on Dec. 5.

The Collective Bargaining Council will be meeting on Nov. 25 in order to consider recommending a strike vote to the membership. Their recommendation will be the subject of the special general membership meeting. December 3rd and 4th have been selected as tentative polling days as per the AUNBT constitution.

I would like to stress that calling a strike vote is not the same as going on strike. Nor does a strike vote expire: it remains valid for a full year. A solid strike vote becomes essential at a certain stage in bargaining, and is often the best means of avoiding a strike. I trust that members will not be unduly alarmed to hear that a strike vote is being considered. Rather, members should rest easier knowing that their bargaining team is strong, focused, and working towards our collective goals with every legitimate tool at their disposal.

This will be an important meeting. We realize that it is a busy time of term, but we hope that members will make every effort to attend.

I look forward to greeting you all on Wednesday.

In solidarity,
Miriam Jones
President, AUNBT
