Pension Vote

Pension Plan Vote Results

Yesterday evening the following message was sent to all FT AUNBT members:

Good evening to all FT AUNBT members.

This message is to let you know that the membership has voted to accept the tentative agreement to convert the AEPP (Academic Employee Pension Plan) to an SRP (Shared Risk Plan). There was a solid turn-out across the four polling locations and the vote was resoundingly in favour.
On behalf of the Executive I would like to thank you for taking the time during a busy term to familiarize yourselves with the issue and to vote. I know you will all join me in the fervent hope that we will not be called upon to deal with any new crises with our pension for a very long time, if ever. Our new plan will not be as generous as the old, and it will necessitate many of us to change our expectations. But we can expect it to be stable and resilient, and that is something that the old plan wasn’t.
We all owe a huge debt of gratitude to Jon Thompson for his leadership, and to the Pension Committee — David Bell, Vaughan Dickson, Dorothy DuPlessis, Jula Hughes, Rick McGaw, Alyssa Sankey, Gopalan Srinivasan, and Barb Trenholm — for their extremely hard work over the past months and years. We would all be in a much worse situation without their efforts.
In solidarity,
Miriam Jones
President, AUNBT
