Yesterday AUNBT CAE members ratified a new collective agreement for UNB’s 400+ Contract Academic Employees.  The agreement was reached this past Monday with the aid of a conciliator; information meetings were held on both campuses on Wednesday and polling stations were open Wednesday and Thursday.

The newly-revised collective agreement will come into effect once it has been ratified by the Board of Governors.

Congratulations to the CAE negotiating team on a job well done: chief negotiator David Bell,  Wendy Bourque, Arthur James and John Neilson. Congratulations also to the CAE Collective Bargaining Committee, Executive Assistant Brenda Morais, and all the others who have contributed to a successful conclusion to this, the second round of bargaining for CAE members.

CAE members may want to consider two things as we wait for the final ratification of the new collective agreement:

  • Many who are eligible to apply for a right of first refusal (ROFR) for courses they teach have not yet done so, no doubt for their own good reasons. But the process is not onerous and there are changes in the new agreement that make having a ROFR even more important.
  • Members may want to begin planning to apply for professional development funding. Maximum allowable funding will increase under the new agreement, as will categories of eligible expenses.
